Calamarie: Traditional Art Reinterpreted At Calamarie we believe that what we buy and who we buy it from matters. Our products are artistic, honest, and though designed for the contemporary woman, they incorporate and preserve traditional art forms, techniques and materials. Our products are hand crafted using natural and local materials and often recycle or reuse them in innovative ways (check out the materials page for more details).
| We develop long-term, relationships with designers and artisans, promote fair trade and social responsibility and with your help build capacity and support sustainable growth. We are committed to offering beautiful, fashion-forward accessories and to share with you the stories behind them. Check back often for more information on artisans we are working with, the communities we support, to hear about what we have learned along the way and about ways to get involved. By becoming a Calamarie buyer you are choosing to know more, to buy responsibly and to look fabulous while you are at it. Thank you for that. |

| Calamarie was founded in 2009 by Catalina Lemaitre in Washington DC. Originally from Cartagena, Colombia, Catalina is a strong believer in ethical businesses and the tremendous impact they can have in our world. Calamarie was born out of a love for art, fashion and all things beautiful coupled with a desire to make a difference both abroad and at home. Through the fair trade of unique, natural and fashionable works of art, Calamarie improves the lives of dozens of artisans while at the same time offering an alternative shopping experience for consumers that want to look amazing and do some good while they are at it. Catalina received her Master's degree in Peace Operations and holds a B.S. in Economics with a minor in Art History, but most importantly loves to draw. |
